Residents of a Herndon townhouse neighborhood have been cleared to return home after police determined that chemicals found in one unit during a search were safe.

According to the Herndon Police Department, its officers and detectives went to the 200 block of Herndon Station Square around 11:30 a.m. today (Friday) to arrest 44-year-old Steven Timothy Kyle, who is facing criminal charges in Pennsylvania.

Fairfax County police arrested a man this week who’s believed to have exposed himself in a West Falls Church neighborhood multiple times.

Officers responded to Fairmont Street and Woodberry Lane in the Tremont Gardens community around 1:22 p.m. on Aug. 20 for a report of a man exposing himself.

A Falls Church man pleaded guilty yesterday (Tuesday) in connection to a fatal shooting and stabbing incident at an Idylwood apartment complex last year.

Vladimir Garcia Montes faces up to 40 years in prison for a charge of felony homicide, a form of second-degree murder involving an accidental killing while committing another felony, according to state law. He entered the plea to the shooting death of one of the victims, the Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office said.

A Springfield man has been convicted for his role in a string of mail thefts from the West Springfield Post Office.

Kenshaun Thompson, 26, faces up to 15 years in prison after a federal jury convicted him last Thursday (Aug. 15) of three charges of possessing and receiving stolen mail, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced.

The three-month campaign launched yesterday (Tuesday) with an initial focus on “community-based crimes,” particularly the “reckless street takeovers” that have periodically cropped up around the county and activities at bars and other late-night businesses, the FCPD said in a press release.

The Fairfax County Police Department touted the county’s status as the safest jurisdiction of its size following the release of its year-end crime report.

The report — which is based on violent crime rates among participating agencies evaluated by the Major Cities Chief Association — shows that Fairfax County’s rate is the lowest among jurisdictions of comparable size. Homicide offenses, sex offenses, burglaries, and robberies all declined between 2022 and 2023, according to the report.

Vienna police are investigating a conflict between a guest and workers at the town’s hypothermia shelter that involved a bomb threat.

Officers responded to the Vienna Presbyterian Church (124 Park Street NE), which is hosting the shelter, at 3:04 a.m. on Feb. 2 after a man fought with a staff member and “threatened to bomb the church,” according to the Vienna Police Department’s Feb. 1-8 crime recap.
