The developer behind The Ox doesn’t want to just draw visitors to Old Town Fairfax with the proposed mixed-use project. It wants to give visitors and residents a reason to stay.

To turn the development into a destination, Ox Hill Companies has enlisted ASM Global to operate the performing arts center that will anchor the 3.58-acre site at Sager Avenue, Chain Bridge Road and University Drive in the heart of Fairfax City’s historic downtown.

A multi-family housing development proposed in Fair Lakes took another step toward existence last week.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a comprehensive plan amendment on Tuesday, Sept. 10 that supports residential development and increased development intensity at a site that previously housed the Parkway Woods office building (12801 Fair Lakes Parkway).

The Herndon Town Council is toying with the idea of rezoning several offices on Herndon Parkway in an effort to address a long-standing policy conundrum: the town’s lack of affordable or workforce housing.

Councilmember Cesar del Aguila suggested at a work session on Sept. 3 that the council should actively explore whether it is legally and logistically possible to rezone several areas along Herndon Parkway between Elden and Spring streets from office uses to mixed-use.

Two residential buildings planned for Kingstowne Towne Center might move forward without any retail.

The Herndon Town Council has once again deferred finalizing an agreement with developer Comstock to redevelop downtown Herndon — a move met with an ire and skepticism that has steadily grown after years of delays.

The council voted 5-1 last night (Tuesday) to extend a deadline for signing an amended agreement with the developer to Dec. 10. The deadline — known as the “outside satisfaction date” — had already been pushed back from April 30 and again from Aug. 15 following a two-year pause on the project.

After a lengthy and contentious debate, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has approved a revised zoning ordinance that imposes strict regulations on data center development in the county.

Yesterday’s 8-2 vote followed over a year of community input and revisions to the proposed ordinance, which tightens restrictions on where and how data centers can be built in Fairfax County.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted today (Tuesday) to authorize consideration of an amended interim land swap agreement with Inova Health System for the redevelopment of Reston Town Center North.

Under the agreement, the county will acquire the land under the North County Governmental Center, which is currently owned by Inova, in exchange for a wooded area that has hosted the county’s largest homeless encampment — until today.

Construction continues at Capital One’s headquarters campus in Tysons, this time to turn vacant land near the McLean Metro station into urban parks.

Work on the future Capital One East and “Block D” parks has been underway for months. In addition to providing open space and recreational amenities, the projects will deliver hundreds of new parking spaces, though it’s unclear whether the lots will be free or paid.

A Maryland developer is looking to fit a new residential subdivision on eight acres in Lorton between Route 123 and Ox Road.

L&F Laurel Highlands LLC submitted a rezoning application to Fairfax County on Tuesday (Aug. 27) proposing 23 new single-family homes on the mostly vacant land.
