More commercial development in Fairfax County could soon give way to housing after the Board of Supervisors approved that option for a pair of office properties in the Fair Oaks area.

The board voted unanimously at its Nov. 18 meeting to amend the county’s comprehensive plan and allow the Fair Oaks Business Park and nearby High Ridge office building to be redeveloped with more than 800 new homes.

Plans to raze an aging office building and replace it with 400 residential units in the Fairfax Ridge Road area of Fairfax Center won unanimous support from the Fairfax County Planning Commission last Thursday (Oct. 16).

The proposal to amend the county’s comprehensive plan guiding development of the site will now be considered by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

Another proposal to replace office space with housing has been presented to Fairfax County.

Time Equities, a New York City-based developer, is seeking to replace the High Ridge office building near the I-66 and Route 50 interchange just outside Fairfax City with a residential building featuring up to 400 units and 5,500 square feet of commercial retail space.
