De Clieu Coffee & Sandwiches is expanding west of Fairfax City, setting its sights on a second location along Route 29 this fall.

A popular destination for its lattes, espressos, house-made sandwiches and baked goods, the cafe has served customers at its original location on Main Street since 2014.

According to Fairfax County records, the cafe obtained a commercial alteration permit earlier this year to renovate a space at an outdoor retail strip at 11923B Route 29 in the Legato area near the Fairfax County Government Center. Other tenants include a Bray & Scarff appliance store and a Tobacco King.

The business is now awaiting a certificate of occupancy and inspections by the fire marshal and health inspector.

While De Clieu’s owner didn’t respond to a request for more information by press time, a manager at the original location in Fairfax City confirmed that the second location is “a hundred percent” opening.

They said the new coffee shop will likely open in late September but could not confirm an exact date.

County records show that De Clieu is also seeking a zoning determination for another site in Reston at 2235 Soapstone Drive, just north of the Walker Nature Center. However, the manager only confirmed plans for the second location on Route 29.

For now, De Clieu can be found at 10389 Main Street B in Old Town Fairfax, where it’s open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. It makes custom syrups in house and obtains its coffee beans from Intelligentsia Roasters.
