Fairfax County is considering a plan to make over part of the Ravensworth Shell Station, which has served the area for more than 50 years.

Applicant Capital Services, Inc. has filed plans with the county to convert its existing service station building into a convenience store at 5200 Port Royal Road in Springfield.

A plan to build 154 townhouses on a property surrounded by industrial uses and bisected by transmission lines opposite Westfield High School in Chantilly is drawing scrutiny from the Fairfax County Planning Commission.

At a meeting last night (Wednesday), some commissioners called the proposal by K. Hovnanian Homes at Gallery Park inappropriate for the area.

Countywide

A 6,000-square-foot retail building could be coming soon at the corner of Fort Hunt Road and Richmond Highway in Belle Haven.

The Fairfax County Planning Commission is set to consider the proposal by Huntwood LLC this Wednesday (April 27) to build a retail addition to the site, which is located at Huntwood Plaza (5845 Richmond Highway).

A veterinary hospital could take up a one-acre vacant site at 4700 Centreville Road, right next to the Westone Plaza shopping center in Chantilly.

A one-story building with 3,200-square-feet is planned on the largely wooded area, along with 41 spaces for surface parking. Access to the site would be provided through the existing shopping center.

A plan to bring 144 townhomes to Westfields will head to the Fairfax County Planning Commission this spring.

The developer K. Hovanian at Gallery Park filed a rezoning application in mid-May of last year to move forward with the project, which it says “will introduce meaningful residential while defining the entrance into Westfields.”

A 113-unit independent living facility for seniors in Seven Corners is moving forward in the Fairfax County’s planning and approval process.

The Board of Supervisors will consider a plan next month by First Christian Church and developer Wesley Housing to build a 113-unit living facility, along with up to 5,000 square feet of medical and general office space at 6165 Leesburg Pike. A public hearing is slated for April 12.


Countywide

The first phase of Mount Vernon Gateway, an approved mixed-use development by Richmond Highway, is moving forward.

Although there has been no movement on the larger project, which was approved in 2005, Elm Street Communities, Inc. has proposed a 280-unit apartment building on the 5.4-acre site.

Fairfax County staff have flagged a number of issues with a proposal to bring townhomes to Fannie Mae’s former campus in Reston.

Wheelock Street Capital, a Connecticut-based company, wants to build up to 90 townhomes on the site, which was previously approved for three office buildings.
