The taco spot, started by Chef Cordero, is expected to open at Liberty Market, a new mixed-use development in Lorton. Taco Rock will occupy roughly 2,770 square feet of space at the center, which is anchored by grocer Lidl.

Fairfax County hopes to turn a site for waste into a recreational treasure, reviving plans to redevelop a landfill by I-95 that closed in 2018.

The Lorton Landfill could be transformed into a public park under a new proposal from property owner Waste Management. Dubbed Overlook Ridge Park, the amenities at 10001 Furnace Road could be completed in 2025, according to Fairfax County.

Woman Dies in Crash on I-495 — Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash on I-495 near the Eisenhower Avenue Connector in the Rose Hill area. The crash occurred at 9:27 p.m. on Saturday (March 5) when a sedan hit a disabled vehicle, causing it to catch fire. The driver of the disabled vehicle died at the scene, while the sedan driver suffered minor injuries and was arrested on multiple charges, including driving under the influence. Multiple I-66 Closures Start Today — Construction on a new I-66 East access ramp will reduce the highway to a single travel lane approaching Cedar Lane in the Dunn Loring area during overnight hours, starting at 10 p.m. today (Friday) through Wednesday (March 9). Construction will also close the I-66 West ramp to Nutley Street in Vienna from 10 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. Monday (March 7). [VDOT, Town of Vienna/Twitter]

Authorities have released the identity of a 59-year-old man who was killed in a Lorton townhouse fire on Feb. 26.

Charles Ngeh was in the bedroom of the townhouse in the 9100 block of Aspenpark Court when the fire broke out.

(Updated at 3:40 p.m.) The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted last week to allocate $5 million of coronavirus recovery funding to the Capital Area Food Bank to expand its Newington warehouse due to increased need.

The project to build a 45,000-square-foot facility is expected to cost $35 million and take two years to complete. CAFB also sought funding from other private partners and the Northern Virginia local governments and communities they serve. Fairfax County is the first to make a formal announcement of funding, CAFB spokeswoman Hilary Salmon told FFXnow.

A new drug treatment center could revive a building that has been vacant for more than two decades on Lorton Road.

The Florida-based company Praesum Healthcare Services is seeking Fairfax County’s approval to repurpose the building at 7665 Lorton Road with a medical care facility for inpatient alcohol and addiction treatment and services.

(updated at 4:05 p.m.) A Fairfax County Police officer shot a 34-year-old man in Lorton this morning (Tuesday) after responding to a call for a suspicious van in a neighborhood.

At a press conference, Police Chief Kevin Davis said the man inside the van raised a rifle in the direction of police when one of the two responding officers shot him. He is in stable condition at a local hospital, Davis said.

Fairfax County fire investigators are trying to determine how four charter buses caught fire Friday evening at a lot in Lorton.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson Ashley Hildebrandt says the fire was reported around 7:30 p.m. at 8025 Mims Street.
