More than 2,000 properties in Fairfax County, most of them in McLean, are currently without power, as the D.C. region suffers through a potentially prolonged heat wave.

According to its outage map, Dominion Energy has 2,132 customers in Fairfax County without power, as of 3:25 p.m. The largest outages appear to be centered around downtown McLean, where crews are assessing the damage to the affected electrical infrastructure.

The facility will officially be known as the MPA Berlage Arts & Education Center in honor of McLean Project for the Arts (MPA) board member and longtime supporter Bruce L. Berlage, who made a “significant” contribution to help fund the project, MPA announced last week.

Fairfax County’s Department of Transportation will consider this week whether to implement a time-of-day turn restriction from one McLean road onto Georgetown Pike.

A proposal, which will be discussed at a virtual public meeting tomorrow (Wednesday), would prohibit outside drivers from turning left from Dead Run Drive during evening hours in hopes of limiting cut-through traffic in the neighborhood.

Plans for significant future expansion of the Vinson Hall retirement community in McLean took a small but key procedural step forward last Thursday (May 1).

Virginia State Police (VSP) said a driver died after striking a tractor-trailer on I-495 early this morning near the Old Dominion Drive overpass.

According to VSP, the driver of the sedan crashed into the back of a tractor trailer around 1:50 a.m.
