Fairfax County supervisors have taken a step to ease the burden of Burke-area families impacted by last month’s microburst.
The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously yesterday (Tuesday) to waive costs for homeowners depositing debris at the I-66 Transfer Station or I-95 Landfill through July 29.
Local business owner Tom Dannan will be the Braddock District’s next representative on the Fairfax County School Board.
Endorsed by local Democrats in a caucus on Jan. 10, the 41-year-old Terra Centre resident bested GOP-supported Saundra Davis in a special election today (Tuesday), securing the seat with approximately 65% of the vote, according to unofficial results.

In accordance with Virginia law, the remaining board members yesterday (Thursday) petitioned the Fairfax County Circuit Court to schedule the special election to replace Rachna Sizemore Heizer, who was elected earlier this month as the county’s new Braddock District supervisor.
After 97 days, the Braddock District once again has its own representative on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.
Rachna Sizemore Heizer was formally sworn in yesterday (Tuesday), having won last week’s special election for the seat. She officially succeeds James Walkinshaw, who resigned after being elected to Congress earlier this year.
