Fairfax County staff have proposed using $300,000 in unspent funds to support ongoing cleanup of Royal Lake Park in Burke following a devastating microburst in June.
The neighborhood was the hardest hit by a June 22 thunderstorm that knocked out power to more than 25,000 people across the county.
Fairfax County supervisors have taken a step to ease the burden of Burke-area families impacted by last month’s microburst.
The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously yesterday (Tuesday) to waive costs for homeowners depositing debris at the I-66 Transfer Station or I-95 Landfill through July 29.
The new year will bring some upgrades to the trails at Royal Lake Park.
With a two-year-long design and permitting process nearing completion, the Fairfax County Park Authority is accepting public comments through Jan. 27 on an environmental review of the planned trail-network improvements at the park in Kings Park West.
