Workshop seeks to ‘solve’ Tysons affordable housing challenges

The conundrum of how to provide affordable housing in Tysons won’t be solved in a day, but the Tysons Partnership hopes to at least start a conversation about how it might be tackled.

About 100 developers, community advocates, property owners, policymakers and employers are expected to convene tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday) at the Boro Station Conference Center (1765 Greensboro Station Place) for a workshop on how to “solve” the area’s affordable housing issues, according to a media advisory.

Fairfax Health District’s COVID-19 count surpasses 200,000 cases

Roughly 27 months after its first reported infection, the Fairfax Health District has officially recorded more than 200,000 COVID-19 cases.

To be exact, there have now been 202,162 cases in Fairfax County and the cities of Fairfax and Falls Church, according to the Fairfax County Health Department. 4,568 residents have been hospitalized, and 1,518 residents have died during the pandemic.

FCPD reports declines in use of force complaints, vehicle pursuits

Vehicle pursuits have come to a near halt amid new rules to avoid overly aggressive policing that can endanger people and communities.

The Fairfax County Police Department recently reported that vehicle pursuits went from above 100 per year in 2019-2021 to one per month as of May 17.

Vienna Police: Citizens report bomb threat at bank, hot tub nudity

In addition to adding more entries to the recent string of vehicle tampering incidents, the Vienna Police Department spent the week preceding Memorial Day weekend responding to crime reports that ranged from alarming to simply odd.

According to the weekly highlights for May 20-26, a citizen told Vienna police around 10:20 a.m. on Thursday (May 26) that he had overheard “two subjects inside a public transportation vehicle” discussing a bomb left at the Navy Federal Credit Union (820 Follin Lane SE).

Governor Attends Vienna Memorial Day Ceremony — “Vienna residents joined Gov. West Falls Church Apartment Fire Displaces Residents — Assisted by Arlington and Fairfax City, Fairfax Count fire investigators are looking into a two-alarm apartment fire that damaged 12 units in the 2900 block of Dover Lane on Sunday (May 29). With summer on the horizon, visitors are expected to flock to Scott’s Run Nature Preserve in McLean, but the Fairfax County Park Authority is warning now: leave the coolers, alcohol, and swimming suits at home.

The park authority and Fairfax County Police Department will step up enforcement of the nature preserve’s rules starting this weekend (May 28-29), a move that has become routine in recent summers.
