A contest-within-the-contest played out Monday (Jan. 13) when the Wakefield Warriors hosted the Marshall Statesmen in Liberty District boys basketball action.

The game feature a battle-of-the-big men showdown between 6-foot-6 senior centers Kooper Odar of Wakefield and Anderson Krisko of Marshall.

For a fifth straight season, the South County Stallions had a strong showing in the annual George Long Holiday boys basketball tournament.

The Stallions (5-2) finished third with a 2-1 record, defeating the host Wakefield Warriors, 53-37, in the consolation game of the eight-team, three-day event at Wakefield High School.

Led by the running of Ethan Lebkisher and a punishing ground game, the Marshall Statesmen won big in their latest high-school football game.

The Statesmen (6-2, 3-1) routed the visiting Wakefield Warriors (2-6, 0-4) by a 40-15 score in a Liberty District game Friday night (Oct. 18). Marshall is now tied for second place in the district with the Langley Saxons (7-1, 3-1).

The Langley Saxons were outgained by a hundred total yards, but not outscored, in their Oct. 10 Liberty District road victory over the host Wakefield Warriors.

Langley (6-1, 2-1) rallied from a 17-7 second-quarter deficit to win the high-school football game, 42-30, bouncing back from their lone loss of the season a week earlier.
