Springfield will get a bit sweeter this summer with the likely arrival of Duck Donuts.
The fast-growing donut chain is opening its first Springfield location at Old Keene Mill Shopping Center (8424 Old Keene Mill Road). It’s moving in next to Mezeh Mediterranean Grill and into the former home of Exquisite Jewelers.
This will be the third Duck Donuts in the county, joining locations in Herndon and Fairfax.
Duck Donuts is aiming for a “late summer” opening in the new space, which is currently undergoing construction, a company spokesperson told FFXnow.
A red “Duck Donuts” sign adorns the outside of the shop, along with window stickers noting that it’s coming soon. Each shop is owned by a franchisee, and this location appears to be owned by the same person who runs the Alexandria Duck Donuts.
“The vibrant, family-friendly community is what interested him in opening a location in Springfield,” a Duck Donuts spokesperson wrote in an email. “The location itself met the requirements Duck Donuts looks for such as densely populated area, visibility from surrounding roads, easily accessible and strong co-tenants.”
The first Duck Donuts opened in 2007, hailing from Duck, North Carolina, in the Outer Banks. In the 15 years since then, the doughnut shop has opened 110 U.S. franchise locations and two internationally. There are plans for nearly 40 more openings in this year alone.
Old Keene Mill Shopping Center was fully renovated in 2019. It also includes a Whole Foods, the family-owned bicycle shop Bike Lane, and Starbucks.
The shopping center is also adding a location of the Arlington-based Pupatella Neapolitan Pizza soon, according to county permits.

For many of these patient honorees, this event was the first time they were reunited with the team of healthcare professionals who cared for them after their injury. Both the healthcare team and the honorees expressed gratitude for the opportunity to thank, hug, and simply see one another again after their experience in the Trauma Center.
