A family-owned bakery from North Bethesda and a brand-new fitness studio are coming to one of the newest buildings in Tysons.
Heming developer Skanska announced today (Wednesday) that Sunday Morning Bakehouse and Apparati Wellness Studio will both open locations in the mixed-use apartment building at 1800 Chain Bridge Road.
This will be the first expansion for Sunday Morning Bakehouse since it opened at North Bethesda’s Pike and Rose shopping center in 2019. The Tysons location will follow the same menu, selling handmade croissants, cakes, sandwiches, and other breads and pastries.
The 3,100-square-foot bakery is slated to open this winter next to the residential lobby on Heming’s ground floor.
Chef and owner Caroline Yi says she created Sunday Morning Bakehouse to give people a place where they can “have a moment of peace, whether it’s catching up with a friend over a cup of coffee and fresh croissant or having lunch outside of the office.”
“I wanted people to know where their food was coming from and know that their bread and pastries were baked fresh that day,” Yi said. “We’re excited to expand into Northern Virginia and provide the same amazing food people know and love to a new community.”
For Apparati, this is a first step into the retail world, since the business currently only caters to “elite athletes and Hollywood celebrities,” according to a press release from Skanska.
Apparati will offer 20 different fitness, wellness and treatment stations that utilize “cutting-edge technologies like AI, machine-learning and real-time data feedback” to help patrons achieve their conditioning, strength, endurance and weight-loss goals. The company says its approach provides “shorter and more efficient workouts” than what patrons can get from the machines at traditional gyms.
“Never before has anyone been able to offer so many wellness and mindfulness technologies under one roof,” Apparati Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Ochkhuu Batsukh said in the release. “Maximizing the latest hi-tech and drawing on Eastern relaxation and recovery methodologies, Apparati is truly unlike anything out there.”
The wellness studio will occupy approximately 3,700 square feet of space on Platform Avenue. It’s currently projected to open in October, a Skanska public relations representative says.
Located in the Scotts Run neighborhood, Heming finished construction and began welcoming residents in fall 2023. The 28-story building has 410 apartments, including 53 designated workforce dwelling units, on top of 38,000 square feet of retail space.
The first retailer, Body Fit Training, opened in Suite 202 last November, and the Japanese restaurant Modan was previously expected to open this spring, though an update on that timing wasn’t available by press time.
Across the street, Sushi Umi opened its doors at 7615 Colshire Road in April.
“We are delighted to have two new local retailers join our growing neighborhood,” Mark Carroll, Skanska USA Commercial Development’s executive vice president and regional manager for D.C., said of Apparati and Sunday Morning Bakehouse. “…Both concepts align with our vision of Heming becoming a true live-work-play destination in this area.”
