A fire blazed through multiple units of an apartment complex in Idylwood this morning (Wednesday), prompting a heavy response by the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.

Units were called to the Falls Church Gardens Condominiums in the 2700 block of Hollywood Road around 9:15 a.m. for what turned into a two-alarm apartment fire.

“Units arrived to fire showing from the top floor,” the FCFRD tweeted at 9:49 a.m.

The department announced shortly after noon that firefighters had managed to get the blaze under control. The crackle of flames can be heard in a video shared by the FCFRD, which also shows pieces of wood falling off the building.

A firefighter reported that there was still some “residual smoke” at the end of the video.

The fire department says no injuries have been reported, but NBC4 reporter Drew Wilder said he saw a woman being taken to the hospital on a gurney when he arrived at the scene.

An FCFRD spokesperson says she was told there were no injuries but could check to confirm.

An investigation into the fire is now underway.

This is the second two-alarm fire that Fairfax County has seen this week after one damaged 10 townhomes — but resulted in no injuries — in Kingstowne on Monday (June 24).
