Bobby’s Bagel Cafe to close Reston store, making way for growing deli

Reston’s North Point Village Center will soon swap one local bagel maker for another.

Bobby’s Bagel Cafe is set to permanently close its shop at 1484 North Point Village Center on Oct. 31, an employee told FFXnow. In its place, the popular “Jew-ish” deli Call Your Mother will reportedly rise, continuing its recent expansion into Northern Virginia.

Bobby’s Bagel Cafe arrived in Reston with a soft opening in December 2019, moving into a space vacated by the restaurant Great China. The shop sells New York-style bagels, sandwiches, salads, pastries and charceuterie boards, along with a variety of hot and cold beverages.

The business didn’t immediately return a request for comment on the impending Reston closure, but it can still be found at the Fox Mill Shopping Center in Herndon, where it has been operating since at least 2007, per its Yelp page.

The cafe also has been in Oakton since at least 2011, though it relocated earlier this year to the Giant-anchored Oakton Shopping Center (2914, Chain Bridge Road, Suite D).

After Bobby’s Bagel Cafe closes in Reston, the 1,600-square-foot space will be renovated for Call Your Mother, which is expected to open “in the next three or four months,” a representative from the deli’s retail broker told the Washington Business Journal.

This will be the D.C.-based deli’s fourth location in Northern Virginia. After introducing itself to the area in May 2023 with a mobile truck in McLean’s Chesterbrook Shopping Center, Call Your Mother opened a shop in Old Town Alexandria this past February. Its McLean operations moved to a permanent brick-and-mortar storefront in July.

Construction recently started on Call Your Mother’s planned Vienna location, which will fill a vacancy left last year by Cold Stone Creamery in the Vienna Marketplace shopping center (205 Maple Avenue).

Call Your Mother didn’t return FFXnow’s requests for comment on the Reston and Vienna stores by press time. It currently has 15 sites across D.C., Virginia, Maryland and Colorado.

Anchored by Giant, North Point Village Center appears to be almost fully leased. A site plan from landlord Lerner Retail shows just one vacancy: a 2,800-square-foot suite between Mathnasium and Wine Cabinet that was targeted for a Body Fit Training studio, though it’s unclear if that’s still moving forward after the expected franchise owner had to step away.
