Timber Pizza to open in McLean this fall

A growing D.C.-area pizza chain hopes to make some noise when it lands in McLean this fall.

Timber Pizza anticipates launching its latest permanent outpost — and its third in Virginia — in the McLean Village shopping center at 8100 Old Dominion Drive in November, though an exact opening date hasn’t been determined yet.

“We know how special the McLean community is and we’re so excited to give you grand opening deets (very soon!!!),” the company said in a press release. “We invite the community to come celebrate with us and discover their new favorite pizza this November!”

The pizza parlor appears to be taking over a portion of the suite that belongs to Roots Kitchen and Bar, which rebranded in early September after opening under the name Roots Provisions and Grocery in 2021.

The shop will be 3,302 square feet in size, spanning suites D and E, according to Fairfax County permit records. A food establishment application suggested it would accommodate 30 seats, but the application was withdrawn in July.

Founded by Andrew Dana and Chris Brady in 2014, Timber Pizza began life as a mobile eatery operating out of a 1967 Chevy pickup truck before chef Dani Moreira joined the team in 2016, per its website. Dana and Moreira are also involved in the popular deli Call Your Mother, which has a McLean storefront and opened in Vienna on Monday (Oct. 21).

Timber opened its first permanent location in D.C.’s Petworth neighborhood in 2016 and later added shops in Ballston, Reagan National Airport, Annapolis in Maryland and Raleigh, North Carolina. It also still has mobile teams in Richmond and D.C.

Timber Pizza’s food menu is the same across all of its locations, but the drink menu often varies, incorporating “local brands,” marketing coordinator Emily Compton says. Twelve inches in diameter, the pizzas can come with red, green and white sauces. Other menu items include empanadas, salads and a seasonal ice cream platter for dessert.

“We were interested in expanding to McLean because we have received so much love from NOVA from vending and catering in the area,” Compton said by email. “You can find Timber in Ballston Quarter, Reagan Airport, and sometimes we’re even catering in the area. We have been on the search for the right space to serve pizza in an amazing neighborhood, and we’re so happy we found that in McLean!”

Timber Pizza Co. is expanding to McLean! 10 years ago, Timber started with a pizza oven, a ’67 Chevy pickup truck, and a deep love of dough. Ever since, we’ve been serving amazing experiences to the Timber Fam throughout the Washington, DC area and searching for new communities to make the same close-knit connection with.

Whenever we’re in Northern Virginia, we always feel the love from the community and decided it’s only right to give the people what they want, another permanent outpost in Virginia. You can find Timber in Ballston Quarter, Reagan Airport, and now we’re PUMPED to be opening in McLean.

A little bit about us: We’re your neighborhood favorite, wood-fired pizza you can always depend on to bring inventive flavors and good vibes. Not only can you get your fresh pizza within minutes at the shop, but also find a warm, welcoming place where you can enjoy the company of old friends and make new ones. Timber is the perfect hangout spot for you, your kids, and even your dog!

We know how special the McLean community is and we’re so excited to give you grand opening deets (very soon!!!). We invite the community to come celebrate with us and discover their new favorite pizza this November!
