Herndon shopping center to swap sushi bar for…a sushi bar

A Herndon shopping center will replace one sushi bar with another.

Sushi Kabuki is coming soon to the neighborhood’s Fox Mill Shopping Center, according to signage posted on one vacant storefront.

The restaurant appears to be taking over the 3,000-square-foot space that formerly housed Mari Sushi Bar & Lounge, which closed permanently back in July.

Not much else is known about the project. The space is still labeled as “available” on a site plan from Regency Centers, which operates Fox Mill Shopping Center.

In addition, a search through Fairfax County’s permit website for the storefront (2533 John Milton Drive) turned up no pending permit filings, which is unusual for an upcoming restaurant.

However, the Sushi Kabuki logo featured on the posted signs looks nearly identical to that of a Sushi Kabuki restaurant located in Florida.

According to its website, the Florida restaurant started with one goal: “to bring authentic, mouth-watering sushi to our community.” It offers a variety of sushi rolls and other traditional Japanese cuisine, including udon, chicken katsu and shrimp tempura.

Requests for comment submitted to the Florida restaurant and Regency Centers went unanswered by publication time.

The shopping center’s site plan also lists the space hosting Bobby’s Bagel Cafe as coming “available soon,” but the business owner recently told FFXnow that it will remain open in Herndon, even as its Reston location closes in November.
