Madison senior football player chosen as region’s best on offense

Awards have been piling up for recently chosen all-region Offensive Player of the Year Dominic Knicely.

6D North Region coaches made all-region selections earlier this week, with the senior runningback taking the top honor for an offense. He also was chosen as the first-team All-Purpose Offensive Player of the Year.

Knicely is listed as a runningback, but also is a wide receiver and kickoff and punt returner. He has been highly productive and a something of a nightmare for defenses at all four positions this season and last.

“Dom has been a scoring threat for us in so many different ways, and comes through all the time,” said Madison quarterback Cael Yates, also a first-team all-region selection.

Opponents try not to punt or kick off to the speedy and elusive Knicely, in fear the result will end in return for a touchdown.

Knicely returned a punt 70 yards for a TD in Madison’s victory in the recent region-championship game over Washington-Liberty. He gained 229 all-purpose yards in that contest, scoring three touchdowns in three different ways.

For the season, Knicely gained more than 2,000 all-purpose yards. He rushed for some 1,100, caught passes for another 750 or so and returned kicks for some 300, scoring nearly 30 touchdowns.
