South Lakes High School’s parent-teacher-student association (PTSA) will get a holiday season boost from a local business for its food pantry and other activities.

Throughout the coming week, the Reston location of Great Clips will donate money to the PTSA for each paying customer it sees. The fundraiser is set to launch tomorrow (Saturday) and continue through Friday, Dec. 20.

This is the first time that the PTSA has collaborated with the salon on this fundraiser, a member confirmed to FFXnow.

The funds will go toward the association’s food pantry, which provides meals for hundreds of students and their families, as well as the annual All-Night Graduation Party, grants for teachers, and student scholarships, according to a press release.

“We are delighted to collaborate with Great Clips for a fundraiser,” South Lakes PTSA President Larry Howell said. “The PTSA is planning on using funds from this fundraiser to support learning programs like teacher mini grants, and scholarships as well as teacher appreciation events that benefit the entire school community.”

Great Clips opened in the South Lakes Village Center at 11130 South Lakes Drive, Unit E, in November 2022. It’s open from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Franchise owner Sean Carroll also owns the company’s Fairfax City salon, which opened in the Turnpike Shopping Center at 3989 Pickett Road in May.

He regularly gets the businesses involved in charitable initiatives in the community. In October, for instance, they gave beauty supply products to the Fairfax County Police Department, which had organized a donation drive for survivors of domestic violence.

“It is a great privilege to work with the South Lakes PTSA. They do such good work for the students, their families, and our community,” Carroll said in the press release.

He noted that the salon has “very strong” links to South Lakes High School: its manager graduated from the school, and one of the lead stylists is the parent of a current student.

Anyone who’s interested in donating to the school’s PTSA but doesn’t need a haircut can contribute through its website.
