Madison grad awarded for having strong college football season

Madison High School graduate Connor Barry had a productive season for the Christopher Newport University football team during the fall.

The sophomore starting quarterback completed 68 percent of his passes and averaged 195 yards per game throwing the ball for the Division III Captains.

Barry threw for 15 touchdowns, ran for four and was intercepted only twice.

Overall, Barry passed for 1,950 yards, completing 130 passes in 10 games. He helped Christopher Newport finish 7-3 overall and 5-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.

For his efforts, Barry was chosen first-team all-conference and was named the Quarterback of the Year in the commonwealth by the Touchdown Club of Richmond.

As a freshman, Barry played in nine games for CNU, with three starts, for the Captains, completing 42 of 74 passes for 745 yards and five TDs. He rushed for 150 yards.

Barry initially began his college football career at Division I Appalachian State in 2022. He participated in a spring football game, but did not play in a regular season game that fall. Barry then eventually transferred to Christopher Newport.

At Madison, Barry led the Warhawks to a pair of 6D North Region championships, along with a runner-up finish in the Virginia High School League’s Class 6 state tournament.

At Madison, Barry earned first team all-district and all-region honors and second team all-state honors.

Barry also was a varsity baseball player at Madison and a team captain.
