A recently established senior living community in the Fairfax area is expanding its capacity with the addition of a new residential building.

A Woodleigh Chase Senior Living spokesperson says construction is “well underway” on Pierson Grove. Slated to open later this year, the building will bring another 122 apartment units to the 42-acre independent living campus (9805 Woodleigh Lane) off of Braddock Road near George Mason University.

“We couldn’t be more excited for the addition of Pierson Grove,” Woodleigh Chase Sales Director David Taylor said in a press release. “This new building meets the tremendous demand in the Northern Virginia area for our active, worry-free lifestyle. Our team looks forward to welcoming more residents to our community and providing them with outstanding amenities and services.”

Operated by Erickson Senior Living, which is also behind the Greenspring community in Springfield, Woodleigh Chase began welcoming residents to its first two completed buildings in early 2024 and celebrated its grand opening on March 14, 2024.

The facility is restricted to residents aged 62 and older and currently has 260 apartments. When fully built out, it will have 1,225 residential units across nine buildings, according to a development plan approved by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in July 2019.

The future housing will include assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing units in an on-site continuing care neighborhood, Woodleigh Chase says.

According to the press release, the Pierson Grove building will introduce three new floor plans: another one-bedroom option and two two-bedroom options, one of them with a sunroom and eat-in kitchen.

“Each residence includes popular features, like stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops, vinyl plank floors, full-size washers and dryers, crown molding in the main living spaces, closets with wood shelving, underbuilding parking, and a screened patio or balcony,” the release said.

Existing units range in price from $479,000 for one-bedroom apartments to more than $1 million for a “deluxe” two-bedroom floor plan.

The new building will also bring additional amenities for residents, including a “flex fitness space with indoor pickleball, a woodshop, and resident storage space.”

More from Woodleigh Chase on its existing amenities:

New residents will have access to the Emerson Square Clubhouse, where current residents are already enjoying the all-season aquatics center, fitness center, theater, hair salon and barbershop, classrooms, billiards and game room, two restaurants, and a pub–not to mention the campus’ outdoor bocce court, pickleball court, and dog park.

The clubhouse is the hub of resident activity, as people often go there to socialize and attend events. It also serves as a meeting spot for the community’s many resident-run clubs.

“In just ten months, we already have 35 resident-run groups,” says Taylor. “The fact that we have so many resident-led activities in such a short period of time is a testament to the active lifestyle that infuses this vibrant community. We are eager to get Pierson Grove open so we can have even more meeting spaces for our groups.”

A priority list for prospective residents to reserve units in the Pierson Grove building is now open.
