A person was shot this morning (Thursday) at the CIA’s headquarters in McLean.
Patrol officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Dolley Madison Blvd shortly before 4 a.m. to assist CIA Police with managing traffic after a “non-fatal shooting” on the intelligence agency’s property, the Fairfax County Police Department says.
According to scanner traffic, local police received a call at 3:51 a.m. for a shooting at the CIA headquarters.
“Someone drove down the front gate,” the dispatcher said, reporting that the driver was shot by CIA police.
A CIA spokesperson confirmed that there was “a security incident” outside the agency’s headquarters, prompting a response by law enforcement.
“The main gate is currently closed until further notice,” the spokesperson said. “Additional details will be made available as appropriate.”
Traffic in the area was heavy during this morning’s rush hour, but Fairfax County police say there are no road closures in place at this time.
“FCPD officers are currently in the area providing traffic support while the CIA conducts its investigation,” the FCPD said.
The CIA said on social media shortly before noon that there was “no ongoing threat,” but the agency’s main gate remains closed.
Since the incident occurred on federal property, it’s now under investigation by the FBI.
“#FBI personnel, including members of our Evidence Response Team, remain at the scene assisting our partners,” the bureau said on social media at 11:53 a.m. “We have no further details to provide currently due to the ongoing investigation.”
Citing law enforcement officials who have been briefed on the incident, NBC News reported that the person shot by CIA Police has been preliminarily identified as 27-year-old Monia Spadaro.
“Spadaro is being treated for the gunshot wounds, and law enforcement agencies are investigating whether or not she may have been intoxicated at the time of the crash,” NBC News said.
Records show that Spadaro pleaded guilty in Arlington General District Court to driving while intoxicated in November 2021.
