Another scorching day is on the horizon for the D.C. region.
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for tomorrow (Wednesday), warning that high temperatures and humidity could push the heat index up to 108.
That would be a slight improvement from the “dangerously hot conditions” that have persisted through the first couple of days this week. An Extreme Heat Warning will remain in effect today until 9 p.m., with the NWS stating that heat index values could climb up to 111.
As of noon, the temperature at Dulles International Airport had reached 93 degrees with a heat index of 103, the Washington Post’s Capital Weather Gang reported. The record temperature on this calendar day is 97 degrees at Dulles and 100 at Reagan National Airport — both set in 2010, per NWS data.
In Fairfax County, it was 98 degrees at 3 p.m., per the National Weather Service. The high temperature for tomorrow is currently expected to be 97 degrees.
Fairfax County has already announced that its emergency heat plan will be active for a third consecutive day tomorrow, establishing cooling centers where people can find bottled water, sunscreen and other supplies.
“Fairfax County also distributes supplies through outreach workers and other partners who go out into the community to check on unsheltered residents, and they are also available at shelters, drop-in centers, and meal sites,” the county said in a blog post.
The Heat Advisory will be in place tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. A chance of thunderstorms starting Wednesday night could bring temperatures down into the 80s and low 90s later this week, as DC News Now meteorologist Jackie Layer predicted in a forecast for FFXnow.
