Empanada restaurant will replace Mochinut in Reston shopping center

A Reston storefront is the latest expansion target for a local brand offering Argentinian cuisine.

Empanadas de Mendoza, a stalwart at Fairfax-area farmers markets, is moving into a recently-vacated space in North Point Village Center.

The local restaurant brand has moved quickly, taking over the former Mochinut space (1478 North Point Village Center) after the donut chain departed in recent months.

According to signage on the storefront’s windows, Empanadas de Mendoza is targeting November to officially open its doors.

It will be the brand’s second brick-and-mortar location, following a storefront in Lorton.

Founded in 2015, Empanadas de Mendoza built itself off of food trucks, which the brand still uses to this day.

It previously had a stall in the food hall at Tysons Galleria, but that closed earlier this year.

Along with a menu of nine different empanadas, the restaurant also offers sandwiches, desserts and sides, including the popular chimi fries that are served with the restaurant’s homemade Chimichurri sauce.

When the Reston restaurant does open, it will serve customers daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Hours will shrink on Sundays, with the restaurant closing at 6 p.m.
