Reston Parkway will be one lane narrower over the next couple of weeks, as repairs continue on the bridge over the Dulles Toll Road.

Starting at 9 a.m. today (Monday), the parkway’s right northbound lane will be closed along the bridge, shifting the other northbound lanes to the left, the Virginia Department of Transportation announced on Friday (Jan. 2).

Drivers will be unable to turn left from northbound Reston Parkway to the westbound Dulles Toll Road, because the existing left-turn lane will be repurposed as a through lane.

“Left-turn traffic will be detoured via northbound Reston Parkway, Sunset Hills Road (Route 675), and Fairfax County Parkway (Route 286) back to the westbound Dulles Toll Road,” VDOT said in a press release. “Drivers are asked to follow posted detour signs.”

The traffic shift is scheduled to remain in place for two weeks, with the lane closures lifting around 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 19.

Construction has been underway on repairs to the Reston Parkway bridge’s steel structure since June 2025. VDOT currently anticipates completing the work this spring.

Built in 1961, the bridge was damaged on the southbound side in the summer of 2023 when a truck crashed into it while turning onto the Dulles Toll Road. The road’s left lane was closed for months until a restoration of the damaged section finished that December.

The current structural repairs are being funded by the state with an estimated cost of $1.9 million, including $1.8 million for construction and $100,000 for preliminary engineering work.
