King Arthur Baking extends stay at Fairfax Corner

King Arthur Baking Company is cooking up a longer-than-anticipated stay at Fairfax Corner.

After previously announcing that it would close at the end of January 2026, the baking supply business now says it will continue operating its pop-up shop at 11948 Grand Commons Avenue through June.

“The baking destination quickly became a local favorite after opening in September 2024, and the brand is so excited to be sticking around a bit longer!” King Arthur public relations representative Sam Serafin said.

Located in a former Soft Surroundings storefront freed up by the fashion retailer’s bankruptcy in 2023, King Arthur’s Fairfax Corner pop-up sells the company’s signature flour as well as other ingredients, baking mixes, kitchen tools and appliances.

The store also hosts a variety of events, including an upcoming drop-in baking activity for Valentine’s Day where customers can try their hand at making whipped cream to enjoy with a slice of chocolate cake. Aimed at kids 5 and up, the event will be free to attend between noon and 2 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday).

Baking classes for kids held on Saturday mornings are sold out through March.

“The King Arthur team has loved getting to know the community and seeing their love for baking in-action at the pop-up’s events,” Serafin said.

The Fairfax Corner pop-up is only the second one ever introduced by King Arthur, which previously ran a temporary store in Greenville, South Carolina, from November to December 2023.

The business has since expanded its physical presence in the D.C. region with another pop-up in Bethesda, Maryland, and its first permanent store is now in the works.

The retail store is slated to open in Old Town Alexandria late this summer and will combine shopping with a baking school, Serafin told ALXnow, FFXnow’s sister site. An address for the store hasn’t yet been disclosed.
