After more than a year of preparations, vegan cookie shop MidnighTreats plans to reopen in Reston this weekend.
The local bakery’s relocation from its original Plaza America storefront to Reston Town Center (1826 Discovery Street) is now complete. The shop will officially open for business at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 16, with giveaways and other festivities to celebrate.
The D.C.-area dessert shop is entirely plant-based. Its locations in Alexandria, Arlington and College Park, Maryland, serve a rotating selection of more than 50 vegan cookie flavors in large “monster” and smaller “munchie” sizes, or as mini “cookie nachos” with icings for dipping. The brand also offers plant milk and milk teas, vegan gelatos, “dirty sodas” and energy drinks.
In Reston, the opening lineup includes its typical monster cookie flavors like chocolate chip and “cinna-roll,” along with red velvet Oreo, snickerdoodle and “carnival chip” munchies. An additional seasonal lineup includes lemon bar, red velvet and cookie butter banana bread flavors, plus an undecided flavor that will be added to the roster based on social media voting.
While the new location sits at around 650 square feet — about half the size of the bakery’s original Reston location — co-owner Jemal Mahdi said the Reston Town Center offers more exposure.
“The original Reston location opened in 2022 and was tucked away in the back of an office building,” Mahdi previously told FFXnow. “We wanted to move to Reston Town Center because we were seeking a location with greater visibility and foot traffic.”
Promptness will be rewarded on Saturday. The first guest in line will receive one free “monster” cookie per week for a year, while the next nine guests will receive the same promotion, but on a monthly basis.
The brand is also planning to give away free chocolate chip monster cookies to guests throughout the day.
Once open, MidnighTreats’ hours in Reston are 11 a.m. to midnight, daily.
