Zara reopens today (Thursday) at Tysons Corner Center, following renovations to expand the store while adding other improvements.
The clothing retailer has officially expanded its two-level shop at the mall (1961 Chain Bridge Road) into Gap’s former storefront, adding more floor space for merchandise and dressing rooms, as well as new, tech-forward counters for purchases, returns and order pickups.
“The newly enlarged Tysons flagship embodies Zara’s next generation of retail, integrating advanced digital features designed to create a seamless connection between online and in-store shopping,” a spokesperson told FFXnow.
Renovations included increasing the number of dressing rooms from about 30 to 40 and adding occupancy lights and signage; installing a new QR code-activated machine for online order pickup; and introducing automated self-checkout areas.
The self-checkout areas use radio frequency identification and are activated automatically when tagged garments are placed in a designated countertop bin. A Zara representative told FFXnow the new setup hopes to curtail the store’s previous tendency to have long lines at the register.
“We wanted to really fix that problem and make it easier for our customers to be able to come in and out, and be able to purchase quickly if they need to,” the representative said.
Women’s clothing is still sold on the main level, with men’s, kid’s and baby clothing available on the lower level.
Gap is still in business at Tysons Corner Center, following a downsizing and relocation to the mall’s first floor near Nordstrom last August.
Elsewhere at Tysons Corner Center, several new businesses are preparing to open in the coming months, including chocolatier Neuhaus Chocolates, Blue Bottle Coffee and play area/cafe Tiny’s Corner. Meanwhile, Dick’s House of Sport is expected to open in fall 2027.
