Slime museum, outdoor movies coming to Tysons Corner Center this summer

Tysons Corner Center is poised for a busy summer with new retail options and family-friendly programs.

Following the recent openings of an expanded Zara and relocated Maggiano’s, the mall anticipates welcoming Sloomoo Institute — self-described as “the world’s #1 slime experience” — sometime in July, though a precise date hasn’t been announced yet.

Spanning two levels near Nordstrom, including the former Paul Mitchell Beauty School space, 17,000-square-foot venue will let visitors concoct, interact with, shop for, slingshot and get dunked in slime, offering activities like “slimescapes,” ASMR sound baths, an ever-growing slime wall and a Sloomoo Falls.

“Guests can learn how to make Sloomoo Slime from scratch, host private birthday parties, experience the expanded DIY Design Bar with over 4 million combinations, smell exclusive new floral scents, and play in the interactive installations,” Tysons Corner Center said in a press release. “There is so much joy to discover.”

Founded by two friends who found stress- and anxiety-relieving benefits in playing with slime, Sloomoo Institute launched with a 12,000-square-foot “slime-making kitchen” in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood in October 2019. It has since expanded to Atlanta, Charlotte in North Carolina, Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles, with smaller MiniMoo sites in Boston and Philadelphia.

Once it opens, the slime museum will join a variety of new tenants at the mall. In addition to Zara and Maggiano’s, openings this month have included:

  • Kurt Geiger: The London-based shoe and accessories brand can be found on the mall’s second level, next to Johnnie-O near the Apple Store.
  • Casper: The mattress store is located at 1961 Chain Bridge Road, Unit O9L, on the mall’s first floor near Nordstrom.
  • La Dolce Bon Bon: Known for crafting fruit-shaped desserts, including ice cream, the business opened a kiosk on June 7 on the mall’s first floor outside Barnes & Noble.
  • Meta Lab: A kiosk where customers can try out AI glasses from Facebook’s parent company is now open on the mall’s second floor near the PenFed Plaza entrance.

In the coming months, shoppers can expect to see previously reported additions like Neuhaus Chocolates, Blue Bottle Coffee and the play area/cafe Tiny’s Corner. Construction is also underway on Dick’s House of Sport, which is expected to open in the former Lord & Taylor wing in fall 2027.

Taking advantage of a new digital screen installed on the rebranded PenFed Plaza, Tysons Corner Center is launching a series of free family movie nights, starting tonight with “Space Jam.”

All starting at 5:30 p.m. and ending around 7:30 p.m., future scheduled screenings include:

  • July 17: National Treasure
  • Aug. 21: Cars
  • Sept. 18: Max
  • Oct. 16: The Nightmare Before Christmas

“Guests are invited to bring a stadium folding chair or cozy blanket, gather with family and friends, and enjoy a summer evening under the lights on PenFed Plaza,” the press release said.

The mall will also host World Cup watch parties on July 10, 15 and 19 as part of the annual COPA Tysons celebration organized by the Tysons Community Alliance. Each match will be accompanied by live music, giveaways, food and drink specials, and other pre- and post-game activities.

Though not listed on Tysons Corner Center’s events page, as of press time, the Plaza will also host family game nights, live music, retail pop-ups and “Strength & Sculpt Series” workouts on Wellness Sundays from trainer Lindsay Bishop.
