Fairfax County police are asking for the public’s help to find information on a near-deadly assault on a man in the Idylwood area that occurred earlier this month.
Officers responded to the 3000 block of Graham Road for a report of a suspicious event on July 5 around 11:30 a.m. When they arrived, they found an adult man “suffering from several injuries throughout his body,” police said yesterday (Wednesday) in a press release.
“The victim was transported to a local hospital in life-threatening condition and remains hospitalized,” the Fairfax County Police Department said.
According to the FCPD, an initial investigation by detectives found that the man was injured in an assault that took place near the intersection of Route 29 and Graham Road, which would place the incident close to Graham Road Elementary School.
In response to an inquiry from FFXnow regarding whether a weapon was involved in the alleged assault — which police described as a “malicious wounding” — a spokesperson for the FCPD said that question “is still under investigation at this time.”
A malicious wounding is defined in Virginia law as any act that causes bodily harm with the intention of maiming, disfiguring, disabling or killing. It could include shootings and stabbings.
Victim specialists from the Major Crimes Bureau’s Victim Services Division have been assigned to assist the victim, the FCPD said.
Detectives are asking anyone who was in the area at that time or who has information regarding this incident to call a McLean Police Station detective at (703) 556-7750.
