A McLean man will be sentenced in Fairfax County Circuit Court this week after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the 2025 shooting death of a man in Herndon.
Kianmehr Shirinipaziziba, now 20 years old, was initially charged with second-degree murder in the death of 39-year-old Jason Hann.
According to court documents, he could now face a sentence ranging from one to 10 years in prison; or confinement in jail for up to 12 months and/or a fee of up to $2,500 for voluntary manslaughter.
The guilty plea, submitted in May, was an Alford plea, meaning that Shirinipaziziba maintains his innocence while pleading guilty to the offense.
As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors moved to not prosecute a range of additional weapons-related charges that were added a few days after the initial arrest, including discharge of firearm in public, discharge of a firearm from a vehicle, using a firearm in commission of a felony, and reckless discharge of a firearm.
According to reporting by NBC4 Washington, Shirinipaziziba, who was 18 at the time, said a man had jumped in front of his car in the 300 block of Elden Street on the night of May 23, 2025.
Herndon police said they first received a call from someone that a man was jumping in and out of the roadway; that was followed by a second call about a shooting.
Shirinipaziziba told the officers that the victim had kicked his Tesla and appeared to be reaching for his waist, leading to the shooting, NBC4 reported, citing court documents.
Hann was taken to a hospital, where he died.
Shirinipaziziba is scheduled for sentencing this Friday (Sept. 25) at 10 a.m.
