A man convicted as a teen in a Fairfax County court for allegedly shooting a person in the face during a drug deal had his conviction reversed this summer due to violations of his right to a speedy trial.

Virginia’s Court of Appeals reversed the young man’s 2023 conviction for unlawful wounding on July 14 after finding that a deadline extension granted for the trial didn’t qualify for an exception specifically allowed by the state’s speedy trial law.

A Fairfax County jury found an Alexandria man guilty yesterday (Thursday) of fatally shooting a man during an attempted vehicle break-in in Woodlawn last year.

Tavon Tykee Ferguson was convicted of second-degree murder and use of a firearm while committing a felony after an eight-day jury trial in Fairfax County Circuit Court.

A private tennis coach could face up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty last Thursday (Aug. 13) to three counts of indecent liberties and two counts of solicitation of a minor.

Tony Dale Adams of Lorton was arrested last November after the Fairfax County Police Department alleged that he “engaged in unlawful and inappropriate contact as a private tennis coach with the victim while she was underage.”

A man accused of attempting to rape a woman at a Groveton hotel last year is facing a new charge of attempting to bribe a witness, according to Fairfax County Circuit Court records.

A grand jury indicted Oscar Junior Barrios of Alexandria on the bribery charge on July 20, adding it to a list of felony charges that already included abduction with intent to defile, attempted rape, grand larceny of a person, and misdemeanor simple assault.

A man accused of sexually assaulting a woman on the Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail in Herndon in 2024 has pleaded guilty to the charge of rape.

Denis Humberto Roman Navarette, 33, pleaded guilty yesterday (Tuesday) in Fairfax County Circuit Court, according to court records. Per a plea agreement, he could serve up to 18 years in prison, which the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney says exceeds the midpoint of Virginia’s Criminal Sentencing Guidelines for the crime.

The trial of a man accused of killing an Alexandria man last year during an attempted vehicle break-in is underway in Fairfax County Circuit Court.

Tavon Tykee Ferguson is accused of second-degree murder and use of a firearm while committing a felony in the death of 21-year-old Jaylin Hartless. Prosecutors say that Ferguson and a second man, Tavon Lang of Alexandria, were trying car doors in the Woodlawn area when they came upon Hartless sitting in his car.
