Treats will start coming early this Halloween for South Block fans in the Idylwood area.
The rapidly expanding juice and smoothie chain will unveil its newest location at 7511 Leesburg Pike in Idylwood Plaza this Saturday, Oct. 31 with a grand opening block party at 11 a.m.
“We’ll be giving away free mini bowls and one lucky attendee will win free acai for a year!” South Block Director of Marketing Alex Lawrence told FFXnow.
Started with a single Clarendon shop in 2011 by McLean High School graduate Amir Mostafavi, South Block has accelerated its expansion across the D.C. region in recent years. The Idylwood location will be its 27th overall and 17th in Virginia, coming just months after the chain opened in Burke.
At Idylwood Plaza, patrons can expect to find “the same high-quality South Block experience they know and love” from those other locations, Lawrence says. In addition to a variety of smoothies and juices, the standard menu features smoothie and acai bowls as well as avocado and banana almond toasts.
Approximately 1,500 square feet in size, South Block will join Lidl and fellow fast-casual chain Qdoba Mexican Eats in the subdivided space that was occupied by Whole Foods Market until the grocery relocated down Route 7 to Falls Church City last year.
Potbelly is also coming to one of the newly created suites, leaving just one 1,181-square-foot vacancy in the otherwise fully leased shopping center. The sandwich shop hopes to open by the end of 2026, according to Federal Realty, which owns and manages Idylwood Plaza.
Looking ahead, Lawrence confirmed that South Block has locations in the works in Fairfax Corner and Kingstowne, both likely opening in the first half of 2027.
The chain announced on Sept. 15 that it’s coming to 11887 Grand Commons Avenue next year, joining a slate of new retailers at Fairfax Corner that will also include Nando’s Peri-Peri, Cafesano and the bakery Chateau de Chantilly.
The Kingstowne juice bar appears to be in an earlier stage of development, with the company obtaining a commercial alteration permit for its build-out on Oct. 8, according to Fairfax County records. South Block will occupy roughly 1,203 square feet at 5965 Kingstowne Towne Center, Suite 140, between MyEyeDr and Nail and Spa.
