The path to the Sugarland Run trails behind Hunters Creek pool in Herndon is more straightforward now following the completion of a pedestrian bridge.
The Town of Herndon’s Department of Public Works held a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier this week to celebrate the new bridge, which is now open for public use.
“The reinforced fiberglass structure installed on new foundations will serve the community for decades to come,” Town of Herndon spokesperson Anne Curtis said.
The town also completed work to reduce erosion in the stream and improve habitat for wildlife.
Construction on the bridge began in July after an assessment found that the existing bridge had to be replaced, and the stream needed restoration. During the roughly two months it took to build the bridge, parts of the trail were closed to allow construction vehicle access.
