CVS has backtracked on plans to shutter its pharmacy at Reston Station.
The drug store chain told FFXnow today (Thursday) that it has decided not to close the store at 1906 Reston Metro Plaza, Suite 100, next month after reevaluating its “upcoming store closure plans.”
“The store and pharmacy will remain open and will continue to serve the community,” Roslyn Guarino, a senior manager of corporate communications for CVS Health, said. “We apologize for any confusion this change in direction may have caused.”
CVS had posted signs to the store’s doors last week announcing that it would close on April 14 and encouraging customers to visit the location in the South Lakes Village Shopping Center instead.
The company confirmed to FFXnow over the weekend that it had “made the difficult decision” to close the location, noting that pharmacy prescriptions would be transferred to the South Lakes store.
CVS didn’t immediately elaborate on what led to the change in plans, but the Reston Station store was conveniently located for both residents in Comstock Companies’ development and commuters entering and exiting the Wiehle Metro station.
CVS has closed more than 1,100 stores nationwide since 2022, including locations in Fairfax City and Vienna, as part of a strategy to adopt new store formats and adapt to changes in population and customer habits.
In business since March 1, 2020, the Reston Station store is typically open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends. The in-store pharmacy operates from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays, with a half-hour lunch break at 1:30 p.m.
