A vegan dessert shop known for its giant, fresh-baked cookies hopes to return to Reston this spring.
MidnighTreats is planning to open around late May to early June at Reston Town Center, owner Jemal Mahdi told FFXnow. It’s a relocation for the plant-based bakery, whose original storefront in Plaza America closed after about two years in business.
“The original Reston location opened in 2022 and was tucked away in the back of an office building,” Mahdi said. “We wanted to move to Reston Town Center because we were seeking a location with greater visibility and foot traffic.”
The new shop, located at 1826 Discovery Street near the town center’s pavilion, is just under 650 square feet and may add some outdoor furniture seating.
It’ll serve MidnighTreats’ rotating selection of more than 50 distinct, vegan-friendly cookie flavors, in large “monster” and smaller “munchie” sizes. Current specials are key lime pie, strawberry matcha and cookies and cream-flavored cookies.
These are joined on the menu by a selection of plant milk and milk teas, vegan gelato, giant “cookie pies” and “cookie nachos,” or boxes of small cookies served alongside a selection of icings and sauces for dipping. The sweets shop has also recently rolled out a new line of “dirty sodas” and energy drinks, which are all made in-house, customizable and available to order sugar-free, Mahdi said.
A grand opening date has not been set, as the shop awaits a permit required to open. However, Mahdi said that future date will include free cookie giveaways throughout the day, along with a chance for customers to enter to win free cookies for a year.
MidnighTreats currently has three regional locations — Alexandria, Arlington’s Ballston neighborhood and College Park, Maryland — with another expected to open in Baltimore later this year.
The bakery is teed up to join a growing dining landscape at the Reston Town Center that recently welcomed another confectionery tenant, Paris Baguette, which held a soft opening last week.
