A Fairfax Connector bus was one of two that collided head-on near the Pentagon this morning (Friday), injuring 23 people, including Defense Department workers.
The Omni Ride and Fairfax Connector transit buses struck each other shortly before 7:30 a.m., according to a press release from the Pentagon Force Protection Agency. Emergency personnel transported 18 of the injured to local hospitals for further medical evaluation. Five were treated at the scene.
Ten of the 23 injured passengers are from the Defense Department.
The Metro Access Road was closed pending an accident investigation.
The accident altered mass transit operations for several hours. Camera footage from the scene showed the two buses colliding.

The Arlington Fire Department confirmed that the crash occurred and that it responded, but it referred questions to the Pentagon Force Protection Agency, the federal law enforcement agency at the Pentagon.
It was unclear what caused the crash.
The Pentagon Force Protection Agency announced shortly after 11 a.m. that normal operations had resumed at the Pentagon Metro station in Arlington.
“Commuters are encouraged to check official transportation schedules for potential delays,” the agency said. “Pentagon Police thank everyone for their cooperation and understanding.”
The Fairfax County Department of Transportation didn’t identify the route used by the bus involved in the crash but confirmed that the incident occurred in the Pentagon Metro station’s south parking lot. Fairfax Connector has several routes that stop at the Pentagon Metro station, including some express service.
An FCDOT spokesperson directed further questions to the Pentagon Police, which is investigating the incident.
“Fairfax Connector staff are working in cooperation with the authorities and transit partners in response to the incident,” FCDOT said.
