Fairfax City Restaurant Week kicks off summer edition this month

A longtime favorite with local foodies will return this month.

Fairfax City Restaurant Week is running Aug. 20-30, with 21 local restaurants putting a spotlight on the signature dishes that best represent their establishment.

“Restaurant Week is one of Fairfax City’s most anticipated community events because it brings people together around great food while celebrating the entrepreneurs and families who make our local restaurant scene so special,” Fairfax City Mayor Catherine Read said in a press release.

“Every restaurant has a story to tell, and this summer’s theme gives diners a chance to experience the passion, culture and craftsmanship behind the dishes that define our community,” Read added.

The participating restaurants offer a range of cuisines, from Italian, Korean, Japanese and Latin American, to Irish or Middle Eastern.

A staple of the city’s calendar since 2018, the promotional campaign is now organized twice a year by a committee of representatives from Fairfax City Economic Development (FCED), the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce, the Old Town Fairfax Business Association, Fairfax City restaurant owners and consultants.

In a change from previous iterations, participants in this year’s summer edition of Restaurant Week will highlight select dishes on their menus instead of offering multi-course, prix-fixe meals.

“Some restaurants may offer special pricing or discounts, while others may simply feature signature dishes,” FCED Public Relations and Marketing Manager Brittany Jones said when asked about the change in approach. “The goal is to give each restaurant the flexibility to showcase what makes their food and story unique.”

The full list of featured dishes and promotions should be posted on the campaign’s website by the end of this week, according to Jones.

Fairfax City Restaurant Week will intersect with the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington’s DC Restaurant Week, which runs from Aug. 24-30.
