A Korean pot rice restaurant is set to fill the space in Centreville’s Centrewood Plaza vacated this summer by longtime tenant Tippy’s Taco House.
Dam-Sot, a restaurant specializing in premium rice dishes, will open at 14119 St. Germain Drive near the Giant food store that anchors the shopping plaza.
Signs have appeared on the windows, a social media account is advertising that the location is “coming soon,” and Fairfax County zoning records show various applications underway since March.
Korean pot rice, or sot bap, is a traditional one-dish meal cooked in a heavy pot. The new restaurant’s menu includes dishes such as steak pot rice, eel pot rice, and soft tofu stew.
Architectural plans submitted to the county show a planned renovation of the 287-square-foot seating area with booth-style seating, modifications for accessible wheelchair seating and restrooms, and demolition of the existing lighting fixtures.
Dam-Sot (also alternately spelled DamSot) did not reply to inquiries about the new restaurant, or when it would open.
DamSot is also the name of a popular South Korean chain specializing in the dish that opened a Los Angeles outpost in Koreatown this summer. The L.A. location received strong reviews upon its opening, with Time Out LA calling it “a standout no-frills, fairly affordable lunch or dinner option with few comparable alternatives in L.A.’s Korean dining scene.”
FFXnow was unable to confirm the affiliation; while the logos look similar, the Centreville restaurant’s website makes no mention of either the Korean chain or its L.A. location.
