Two pedestrians were seriously injured and another was killed in vehicle crashes on Fairfax County roads this past weekend.

An adult man was declared dead after he was struck by a driver on southbound Route 28 (Sully Road) near Route 50 in Chantilly at around 4:15 a.m. yesterday (Sunday), the Fairfax County Police Department said.

“The driver remained on scene and was not injured,” police said, advising travelers to use an alternate route while two of Route 28’s southbound lanes were closed for an investigation.

The fatal crash came in the wake of two separate crashes on Friday (Oct. 16) that sent pedestrians to the hospital.

At 9:10 p.m. that day, the FCPD reported that its officers were at the scene of a pedestrian crash at South George Mason Drive and Leesburg Pike (Route 7) in Bailey’s Crossroads.

“The adult female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries,” the FCPD said. “The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was not injured.”

Then, at 11:40 p.m., officers shut down eastbound Route 29 from Blake Lane to Circle Wood Drive in Oakton following a crash at the Blake Lane intersection where an adult man was struck by an unspecified vehicle.

As in the Bailey’s Crossroads crash, the pedestrian was transported to a hospital with injuries described as life-threatening, while the driver remained at the scene and didn’t experience any injuries, according to the FCPD.

As of 7 a.m. today, the pedestrians injured in both crashes on Friday night remain in the hospital, the FCPD says.

Yesterday’s Route 28 crash brings Fairfax County’s pedestrian death toll for 2026 up to 18 people by FFXnow’s count. It was the second fatal crash involving a pedestrian so far this month, following a hit-and-run incident at Old Keene Mill Road and Backlick Road in Springfield on Oct. 4.
