Karen joined the Well-Paid Maids team as a cleaner in January 2021, and she was recently promoted to an operations manager! This well-deserved promotion is part of Well-Paid Maids’ effort to deliver better customer service with responses to phone calls and emails seven days a week.

To celebrate Karen’s promotion, we caught up with her to learn more about her time at Well-Paid Maids, the area’s only certified living-wage cleaning company.


It can be a little daunting having a young family in the DMV. Here’s a list of where our clients have found community, picked up parenting ideas, snuck in some exercise and generally had a decent reason to get out of the house. Which is so great for our wellbeing.

For clients who experience loss around this time, we’ve included local support groups. From postpartum to grief, including miscarriage and infant loss, these organizations focus on compassion and understanding. If they charge anything, it’s likely only a nominal fee.


In May 2024, the Episcopal Church awarded 40 Becoming Beloved Community grants to support racial justice, healing, reconciliation, and creation care efforts throughout the world. St. Timothy’s Church in Herndon was the recipient of a $9,350 Impact Grant for its ongoing work in Latino Ministry.

St. Timothy’s is an Episcopal Church that worships God in English and Spanish, striving to be ‘One St. Timothy’s’.’ We aim to grow as one congregation of two cultures by deepening our existing relationships, equipping Latino congregants to share in leadership, and creating opportunities for cross-cultural fellowship and mutual understanding.


FREE Leadership Sessions will be conducted at the George Mason University –Arlington Campus for High School Latinas. The program runs from Monday 7/15 through Friday 7/19 from 10:00AM to 3:00PM EST each day (1-week).

Owners of six Woofie’s franchises in Northern Virginia are hosting “Paws in the Park,” a pet adoption event on May 18 at 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (rain date May 19) at Wolf Trap National Park, Wolf Trap Farm Park, 1645 Trap Road, Vienna. They hope to bring awareness for local animal shelters and the need for “furever” families for animals.

Woofie’s will have about 20 mobile spa vans on site, offering free nail trims and Wash ‘n Go baths for rescued dogs and pups up for adoption, and special event pricing for families who bring their own pets for grooming (as time permits/allows).


The Blue Swallow Farm Foundation is holding an online auction to celebrate three years of helping students and educators in outdoor instruction. We invite you to participate in our online auction to support our mission of providing authentic, outdoor experiences for children. This event not only serves as a fundraiser for our initiatives but also as an opportunity for you to acquire unique items and experiences while making a positive difference in the lives of students and educators. You can preview auction items and then register as a bidder. Bidding will begin on May 4. The bids will close on May 8. Proceeds will assist us in helping educators build outdoor classrooms, developing high-quality curriculum materials and professional development workshops, sending teachers and students to environmental youth summits, and assessing the benefits of outdoor learning.
