Toastique butters up for spring opening at Reston Town Center

Toastique’s expansion in Fairfax County will continue next month with an opening at Reston Town Center.

The gourmet toast chain is planning to hold a grand opening for its new location at 11900 Inspiration Street on Saturday, March 7, offering $50 in reward dollars to the first 100 customers who make a purchase of at least $10.

Residents told to stop flushing wipes as Potomac River sewage cleanup continues

Please stop flushing wipes down the toilet, even if they’re labeled “flushable,” Fairfax County said in a recent message to community members.

The county’s Department of Public Works and Environmental Services urged residents late last week to avoid flushing anything other than toilet paper after a mass of non-disposable wipes clogged a regional sewer pipeline, exacerbating overflows into the Potomac River.

Arlington tech companies to open Fairfax offices, bringing over 300 jobs

A pair of Arlington-based technology companies are planning new offices in Fairfax County, collectively promising over 300 new jobs.

First, the space tech manufacturer Umbra announced last Thursday (Feb. 12) that it will expand to Reston, opening a 20,000-square-foot office expected to host over 100 employees. Then, defense contractor Grvty revealed yesterday (Tuesday) that it will establish a new corporate headquarters in Tysons.

Changing course, FCPS adopts ‘Skyview’ as name of new high school

Fairfax County’s new western high school won’t be named Western High School after all.

The school board voted unanimously last Thursday (Feb. 12) to instead adopt “Skyview High School” as the new name of the former King Abdullah Academy campus at 2949 Education Drive, near Dulles International Airport and the National Air and Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy Center in the Floris area south of Herndon.

Virginia House passes Fairfax County-supported bill targeting excessively noisy vehicles

Fairfax County officials are cautiously optimistic about the prospects for state legislation that would let certain localities use monitoring equipment to fine owners of excessively noisy vehicles.

House Bill 55, patroned for a second year by Del. Rip Sullivan (D-6), passed the House of Delegates yesterday (Tuesday) on a 64-34 vote after a third reading.

Tech investing firm moving HQ from Reston Town Center to Reston Row

A venture capital firm that focuses on national security and technology companies is bouncing from one growing Reston development to another.

Currently based at Reston Town Center, Razor’s Edge Ventures will relocate its headquarters to the Row at Reston Station after signing a lease for approximately 15,000 square feet of space, property owner Comstock Companies announced Wednesday (Feb. 11).

Measles case reported at Lorton grocery store, Inova ER

Another measles case has been detected in Fairfax County, this time in the Lorton area.

According to the Virginia Department of Health, an adult who recently traveled abroad has been diagnosed with measles after visiting a local grocery store and two Inova facilities, potentially exposing other people.

JUST IN: Centreville homes still off limits after apparent natural gas explosion

Dozens of Centreville residents are still unable to return home almost a day after a fiery explosion possibly fueled by a natural gas leak rocked their neighborhood.

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded around 9:48 p.m. yesterday (Sunday) to the 14300 block of Quail Pond Court in the Belle Pond Farm neighborhood after receiving multiple calls about “a loud explosion.”

JUST IN: Pedestrian critically injured in downtown McLean crash

A pedestrian suffered critical injuries in a crash that occurred this evening (Friday) in the heart of downtown McLean.

Police and units with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched around 6:10 p.m. to the intersection of Old Dominion Drive and Beverly Road for the crash, according to scanner traffic.

UPDATED: Ilia Malinin misses Olympic gold, but supporters in Reston still proud

Figure skaters and their families from across the D.C. region gathered today (Friday) at Reston’s SkateQuest to watch their homegrown phenom pursue gold and, possibly, history an ocean and continent away at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics.

In minutes, however, that vision fell apart as Vienna resident Ilia Malinin missed the Olympic podium entirely after a disastrous free skate where he fell twice, finishing in eighth place with 264.49 points.
