A Chantilly man who had been missing for the past week was found dead today (Monday) after his vehicle was pulled out of the Occoquan River.

Quang Hang, 78, was reported missing by his family around 8 p.m. on Dec. 1 after he never returned home from a vehicle inspection scheduled to take place in Leesburg at 2:30 p.m., according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

Owner of Herndon-area shopping center wants to explore more retail options

A craft brewery or veterinary hospital could be in Woodland Park Crossing’s future, if Fairfax County approves.

The owner of the Harris Teeter-anchored shopping center, located just west of the Herndon Metro station’s south entrance, is seeking amendments to the development plan that would allow more flexibility in terms of the types of businesses it can host.

Tysons needs over 10K new homes in next 15 years, report estimates

If Tysons continues to evolve from commercial suburb into Fairfax County’s urban core, as planners hope, it will need more than 10,000 new homes by 2040 to accommodate the influx of residents, a recently released study found.

Commissioned by the Tysons Community Alliance (TCA) and published on Dec. 3, the Future Housing Demand in Tysons report from consultant Jon Stover & Associates (JS&A) predicts Virginia’s population growth over the next two decades will remain concentrated in its metropolitan areas, with Tysons helping the northern region lead the way.

UPDATED: Pedestrian killed in crash on Route 1 near Fort Belvoir

Fairfax County police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash on Richmond Highway.

Officers and medics were dispatched to the intersection of Richmond Highway and Fairfax County Parkway in Fort Belvoir at 9:51 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 7) for a crash involving a struck pedestrian, according to scanner traffic.

JUST IN: Lorton tennis coach charged by police with abusing minor

A private tennis coach in Lorton has been arrested after a student alleged that he engaged in an inappropriate relationship with her.

The victim told officers on Nov. 23 that Tony Adams, 62, had “subjected [her] to inappropriate conduct” when she was taking lessons from him, the Fairfax County Police Department says. She was underage at the time.

NWS: Slippery roads possible tonight from snow freezing in D.C. region

Though snow is no longer falling in Fairfax County, below-freezing temperatures could combine with drizzly weather to extend this morning’s tough travel conditions into the evening.

The National Weather Service issued a new Winter Weather Advisory for the D.C. region shortly before 1 p.m., warning of the potential for “very slippery sidewalks, roads and bridges” tonight (Friday). The alert is scheduled to take effect from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday).

Snow leads to tough morning commute in Fairfax, including Route 1 closure

Snow has arrived in Fairfax County, creating slick, dangerous roads during this morning’s rush hour.

Richmond Highway has been closed in both directions in the Lorton area after “several vehicles … spun out” on the snow-covered road, the Fairfax County Police Department said shortly after 8 a.m.

County board opens door for more housing north of Innovation Center Metro

A developer that has been angling to build on a sliver of mostly vacant land north of the Innovation Center Metro station for two decades took a step closer to realizing its goal last month.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved a comprehensive plan amendment at its Nov. 18 meeting that will allow residential development on three parcels at 2140 Rock Hill Road in Herndon, paving the way for a project proposed by commercial real estate firm Stout & Teague.

JUST IN: Fairfax County schools to delay opening for possible winter storm

A winter storm that could potentially hit the D.C. area tomorrow morning (Friday) has convinced Fairfax County Public Schools to give students a late start to the day.

All schools and central offices will open two hours late compared to their regularly scheduled start times tomorrow, FCPS announced, adding that a full closure is still possible depending on the actual weather conditions in the morning.

Merrifield Starbucks workers begin picketing as nationwide strike continues

Workers at Fairfax County’s first unionized Starbucks are officially on strike as part of a nationwide campaign to secure a contract from the coffee chain.

The Starbucks at 3046 Gatehouse Plaza in Merrifield was one of 26 stores around the U.S. to join the picket line today (Thursday), bringing the total number of participants in the nearly month-long strike up to approximately 3,000 baristas at over 145 cafes in more than 105 cities, Starbucks Workers United says.
