Hopefully, you’re not a habitual Herndon parking ticket recipient, but anyone who does wind up with a ticket may notice a difference in the citations.

Herndon Police Department has implemented a new electronic parking ticket system. While there are still handwritten tickets, you may come across the new type that appear more like a store receipt, the department says.

A George Mason University professor was stabbed to death in his Oakton home near Vienna Wednesday night, Police Chief Kevin Davis said at a press conference today (Thursday).

Michael Buschmann, 59, was found dead in the house in the 9800 block of Palace Green Way after police received several calls reporting his 26-year-old son Axel Buschmann walking around shirtless, covered in blood, and holding a knife.

An occupant of a Vienna home that caught fire this morning (Thursday) is in life-threatening condition, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department said.

Two others were also transported to local hospital for minor injuries, according to the department.

(Updated at 3:51 pm) Herndon Police officers have arrested a Herndon resident in connection with a malicious wounding earlier today (Thursday).

Police are in the 1100 block of Dublin Place and arrested Dimitri Pike, 23, of Herndon. He was charged with malicious wounding of a victim that was known to him.

Fairfax County’s Police Civilian Review Panel approved its annual report Monday (Feb. 28) and hosted its new executive director for his first meeting in the role.

Appointed by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on Feb. 22, Richardson is the first executive director for the panel, which was established in 2016 to review completed investigations of complaints alleging police abuse of authority or serious misconduct.

A proposal to restore the house at Margaret White Gardens in West Falls Church is being reviewed and will face a virtual public hearing on March 29.

Under the resident curator program, the Fairfax County Parks Authority is seeking someone to live rent-free in the home, which is near Sleepy Hollow Elementary School, and rehabilitate and maintain it out of pocket under a lease.

(Updated at 3:40 p.m.) The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted last week to allocate $5 million of coronavirus recovery funding to the Capital Area Food Bank to expand its Newington warehouse due to increased need.

The project to build a 45,000-square-foot facility is expected to cost $35 million and take two years to complete. CAFB also sought funding from other private partners and the Northern Virginia local governments and communities they serve. Fairfax County is the first to make a formal announcement of funding, CAFB spokeswoman Hilary Salmon told FFXnow.

Fairfax County police identified the man killed in a shooting in Centreville on Monday night (Feb. 21) as a 37-year-old Leesburg resident.

Police officers responded around 10 p.m. to a townhouse in the 14800 block of Bodley Square in the London Towne area and found Amaru Amin Shabazz inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds, the department said in a news release. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A new sign in Herndon Caboose Park explains how Jim Crow laws affected passengers on the Washington & Old Dominion train line in the 1900s. Another sign in Clifton describes the significance of a graveyard for enslaved people near Bull Run Marina.
