The Fairfax County Animal Shelter (FCAS) will waive adoption fees this Friday through Sunday (Aug. 23-25).

The shelter has more than 160 animals waiting for adoption, it said in a press release. That includes cats, dogs, guinea pigs, mice and rabbits.

Reston resident Jeanette Pagliuco set a new Guinness world record last week for most live music shows attended in a week with 27 concerts.

From Aug. 2-9, Pagliuco went to 27 live music events across the D.C. region, attending a mariachi performance, symphony orchestra concert and various rock band shows.

Woodrow Wilson Library in Bailey’s Crossroads will officially get renamed at the beginning of September following months of community requests.

The Fairfax County Public Library (FCPL) Board of Trustees voted unanimously on July 10 to change the name to the Culmore Community Library to reflect the neighborhood where the library is located, replacing the former president’s moniker.

Jeanette Pagliuco is ready to break the world record for attending the most live musical concerts in a week.

The self-described music fanatic from Reston aims to exceed the current record of 21 live performances by attending 26 or 27 shows around the D.C. region, starting tomorrow (Friday) through Aug. 9.

The dog days of August will bring free movie screenings to the Sully Historic Site (3650 Historic Sully Way) in Chantilly.

The outdoor Starlight Cinema events are a part of the “Summer Entertainment Series” organized annually by the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA). The authority is also hosting Arts in the Parks, Evenings on the Ellipse, Franconia District Nights and other programs at various parks around the county.

The Closet of Greater Herndon is holding its annual toy sale this Saturday, July 20, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Laura Greenspan, the toy sale coordinator, said this is the nonprofit thrift shop’s last off-site toy sale, but it doesn’t mean The Closet is ending toy sales altogether.

The Fairfax County Park Authority is considering changing up the mix of tennis and pickleball courts at Wakefield Park in Annandale.

The park authority will host a virtual community meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) at 7 p.m. to present a proposal to convert a tennis court into four pickleball courts.

Jessica Hudson is no longer Fairfax County Public Library’s director after stepping down to take a county manager position in San Juan Islands, Washington.

Sara Prohaska, marketing and communications director for the FCPL, confirmed that Hudson vacated the position she’d held for eight years on June 14. The Library Board of Trustees has begun the search for a new director in cooperation with the county’s Department of Human Resources.

The Fairfax County Public Library Board of Trustees is considering changing Woodrow Wilson Library’s name to Culmore Community Library following “significant community input.”

Library Board of Trustees Chair Brian Engler said many community members in the Mason District, where the library is located, have testified during public comment periods in recent months that they want the name changed.
