Updated at 2:45 p.m. on 9/28/2022 — MPAartfest has been canceled due to potential inclement weather from Hurricane Ian, which made landfall in Florida today (Wednesday). Organizers are looking at options for an alternative fall event, the McLean Project for the Arts said.

Earlier: The McLean Project for the Arts (MPA) is kicking off fall with a celebration of the culinary, visual, and musical arts.

‘Perchfest’ brings mini-golf and bocce tournament to Capital One HQ this weekend

One year ago, Capital One Center launched The Perch, a 2.5 acre park with mini-golf and a biergarten adjacent to the Capital One headquarters. To celebrate the anniversary, Capital One Center is launching a weekend-long festival.

Capital One Center said guests are invited to come play elevated mini-golf at Perch Putt or drink at Starr Hill Biergarten while musicians perform at the venue’s amphitheater stage. Other features of the festival include a meet-and-greet with adoptable puppies and a pie-eating contest.

Fairfax Connector to get new Tysons-area route along I-66 express lanes

The Fairfax Connector is getting a few changes (page 228) starting early next year, including a new route along I-66’s express lanes with more Vienna connections on the horizon.

At a meeting on Sept. 13, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved several changes that could expand the reach and efficiency of transit around the Tysons area.

Falls Church police arrest man for child pornography

(Updated 4:25 p.m.) The City of Falls Church Police announced earlier this week that they’d arrested a man on five counts of Possession of Child Pornography.

Kimball Bryant Winn (64) was arrested on Sept. 9 as the result of an investigation by a task force comprised of Falls Church police and Virginia State Police, according to the release.

The troubled saga of Founders Row’s movie theater

The theater at the Founders Row mixed-use project could be scaled down from earlier plans, but the tradeoff is that Falls Church could be getting a new arcade and bowling alley.

At a meeting of the Falls Church City Council on Monday, the Council reviewed requested changes for Founders Row. The development was approved for 59,493 square feet of ground floor retail, 4,946 square feet of office space, 394 apartments and a 32,079 square foot, 2-story movie theater. That theater, though, has become something of a sticking point.

North Carolina truck driver killed in I-495 crash

The Virginia State Police (VSP) has released more details about a single-vehicle crash on Sunday morning that left one driver dead.

VSP said they responded to the crash on the Beltway near the exit to the Georgetown Pike around 6 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11.

CinéBistro’s Tysons Galleria opening pushed to next month

CMX CinéBistro was originally scheduled to open later this month, but the upscale theater chain has pushed its showtime back to October.

According to a release, the opening date is now Friday, Oct. 14. The theater/restaurant is opening at 2001 International Drive on the third level.

Delegate race inadvertently reignites ‘Tysons Corner’ name debate

Local reporter Michael Lee Pope has reignited a war on social media over the name Tysons.

The micro-debacle started with Pope’s reporting on the race to take over Mark Keam’s 35th District after the delegate announced his retirement. Pope listed Keam’s district as including parts of Vianna, Oakton, Fair Oaks and — crucially “Tysons Corner.”

McLean Community Center’s fall sale returns next weekend

The McClean Community Center’s annual Fall Community Parking Lot Sale — a large flea market for local residents and businesses — is returning next weekend.

The sale is scheduled to run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.
