Reston will usher in Memorial Day weekend and the unofficial start of summer by celebrating the grand reopening of Lake Thoreau pool.

The swimming pool at 2040 Upper Lake Drive will welcome its first patrons since closing in 2020 for renovations with a party this Friday (May 24) from 4-7 p.m.


The Town of Vienna appears to be getting another bank.

Noodles & Company’s long-standing restaurant in the Vienna Marketplace shopping center (201 Maple Avenue East) is slated to be converted into a Citibank, according to Fairfax County permits.


Reston has a busy summer of music and movies ahead that will include the revival of a dormant Lake Anne Plaza tradition, an expanded entertainment line-up at Reston Station, and the addition of the area’s newest neighborhood.

Halley Rise, which remains under construction, will host the Reston Community Center’s long-running “Take a Break” series — one of six planned for sites around Reston this year — outside The Edmund apartment building (2025 Fulton Place).

JV’s Restaurant in West Falls Church (6666 Arlington Blvd) is one of 12 finalists competing in the informal poll. Mostly located in D.C., the finalists rose to the top out of “dozens” of contenders submitted by “hundreds” of readers after the Post asked for favorite dive bars in March.


Due to permit-related delays, Kook Dogg Cafe in Reston has postponed its grand opening but expects to open within the next few months.

“It’s kind of a waiting game,” co-owner Noel Kuchler told FFXnow. “[The permit] has gotten submitted, so we’re just waiting to get that approval from the county and then as soon as they approve that, then we can move forward and get going on the rest of everything.”


Joon has expanded its offerings in Tysons with the addition of a bar and patio.

Named after a poetic Farsi term for “wine,” May Bar began serving customers inside the Persian restaurant at 8045 Leesburg Pike yesterday (Thursday). The launch was timed for late spring to coincide with the opening of an outdoor patio that will host DJs on Friday nights going forward, Joon co-owner Reza Farahani told FFXnow.


Owners of six Woofie’s franchises in Northern Virginia are hosting a “Paws in the Park” pet adoption event tomorrow (Saturday) at Wolf Trap National Park.

Participating Woofie’s include Reston/Herndon, Ashburn-Leesburg, McLean, Western Loudoun, South Riding-Aldie and Fairfax. Woofie’s mobile pet services include dog walking, grooming, nail trimming, Bed ‘n Biscuit pet stays, overnight and daytime pet sitting, and other personalized services for area pet owners.
