A Lorton man has been convicted of murder after he shot his girlfriend last year, though he claimed to police that she had died by suicide.
Huy Tien Nguyen, 48, was convicted of second-degree murder by a Fairfax County Circuit Court jury today (Monday), a charge that could result in up to 40 years in prison, Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano announced.
Local law enforcement continues to investigate a Lorton murder that occurred five years ago this week.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano announced today that Thomas Burns Sr., CEO of government contractor SP Global, Inc, will have to pay over $1 million in restitution.

Burns was also sentenced to four years of incarceration with one suspended — technically four years for each charge, but sentences running concurrently.
