The Fairfax County Police Department has released two still images from the body camera of an officer who fired his gun on Tuesday (July 28) at a suspect he was pursuing, after the man allegedly attempted to disarm him.
The first image appears to depict a man in a bush — identified by police as Nehemia Fuentes Banegas, of Annandale — holding the officer’s gun. The second shows two utility knives on the ground.

On Thursday, October 1, the Town of Herndon is inviting the community to take part in an interactive planning event at the Herndon Community Center and help explore possible futures for the Town.
Think of it as an expedition to Herndon’s future, with residents helping chart the course.
The event is part of Herndon 2050, the Town’s effort to update its Comprehensive Plan. The plan will help guide decisions about Herndon’s future, including how the community grows and develops in the decades ahead.
But planning for 2050 requires more than looking at maps and data. It requires hearing from the people who know Herndon best.
That’s where you come in.
During the October 1 event, participants will explore different possibilities for Herndon’s future and have opportunities to share what they think should be prioritized as the Town evolves.
Whether you’ve lived in Herndon for decades, recently moved to the community, own a business, work in Town or simply care about its future, this is an opportunity to make your voice part of the conversation.
Two sessions will be offered on October 1:
Both sessions will take place at the Herndon Community Center and offer the same interactive experience, so participants only need to attend one.
And there’s an extra reason to arrive early: the first 100 participants at each session will receive a limited-edition commemorative gift.
2050 may sound far away, but decisions made today can influence Herndon for decades.
That’s why community participation now matters.
This event is an opportunity to think beyond what Herndon looks like today and consider what you want it to become. What should we preserve? What should change? What will future generations need from their community?
There isn’t one person who can answer those questions. Herndon’s future will be shaped by the people who call it home.
