An instructional assistant at Annandale High School is facing criminal charges after allegedly assaulting a student earlier this month.

A school resource officer was notified on Dec. 19 that Jaime Gerardo Gallo Pacheco, a 33-year-old Annandale resident, had reportedly physically assaulted a student earlier that day, the Fairfax County Police Department says.

For nearly three years, a student-led club at Annandale High School has provided emotional and academic support to dozens of adolescent Afghan refugees and other immigrant students who have resettled in Fairfax County.

Recent Annandale High graduates and Afghan natives Sosan Barakzai and Husna Basiri established the Dunya Club in September 2021 to help their peers who fled Afghanistan after the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul adapt to their new environment and find a new community.

(Updated at 6:40 p.m. on 1/15/2024) A 17-year-old student was arrested yesterday (Friday) for allegedly sexually assaulting another student at Annandale High School.

The victim reported the assault to a school resource officer earlier this week, the Fairfax County Police Department said in a news release.

For the first time, the Fairfax County School Board has approved a contract to install rooftop solar panels on a school building, a move both board members and advocates said has been a long time coming.

Under a solar power purchase agreement (PPA) that the board authorized Thursday (Nov. 3), Annandale High School will receive solar panels as a pilot program to give Fairfax County Public Schools “a working knowledge of these installations,” Mason District Representative Ricardy Anderson said before the vote.
